What wood I'll be - SID

Brief

“What wood I’ll be” – how to use wood improperly, inspired by the work of great designers. This was the design theme developed by second-year students during the Product Design 1 course.

Gaetano Pesce

Italian sculptor, design architect. An exponent of radical design, he is known for the tactile and emotional quality of his design. He explored materials and their symbolism. With an open approach, addressing issues beyond material culture. The repetitiveness of industrial production does not exist in Gaetano Pesce’s design.

LCA

The group worked on the concept of recycling by addressing the issue of eco-sustainability, hence the name LCA (acronym for Life Cycle Assessment) given to this reinterpretation of Cassina’s LC2, a concentrate of elegance and creativity; with its finishes, minimalist structure and lack of ornamental elements, designed by Le Corbusier. The focus was mainly on the materials used, favoring scraps as opposed to the originals used by Le Corbusier. This choice, as well as a stylistic one as denoted by the cushions which, thanks to their transparency, leak ‘internal padding formed by wood wool, was undertaken as an oppositional movement, having to cope today with a continuous increase in waste materials. LCA wants to be born from them, or rather reborn.
