Threshold - Lamp project - SID

Brief

Threshold is an indoor lamp that combines essential design with high functionality. Designed by students in the second year of the Product Design 1 course, the lamp embodies the design theme focused on using lightweight materials and minimizing components.

A perforated and bent copper body for diffuse and customizable lighting

Made entirely of copper, Threshold consists of an LED bar and a metal body that is drilled and bent repeatedly. This particular conformation not only ensures a higher light intensity, but also makes it possible to generate striking beams of light on the floor or next to the wall, depending on the positioning of the lamp.

A customizable assembly that engages the user

Threshold comes in kit form, with screws and tutorial images to guide the user through assembly. This do-it-yourself approach not only saves assembly costs, but also makes the experience more personal and engaging.

Threshold: meaning and inspiration

The name “Threshold,” which means “threshold” in English, evokes the idea of passage between two worlds. In the expertly crafted folds and tensions of copper, the maximum light intensity is reflected, creating a fascinating contrast with the lightness of the structure. A concept that well represents the union between functionality and design that characterizes this lamp.

Copper saucer: stability and design

Another peculiarity of Threshold is the saucer underneath, also made of copper and applied by interlocking. Besides adding an aesthetic touch, the saucer has an important function: stabilizing the lamp and ensuring its perfect balance on any surface.
