The proposal
KopDrab is a project developed by sophomores during the product design course. It is inspired by Simon Legald’s Craft series, a collection in which materials play a key role in differentiating the different parts of objects functionally, tactilely and chromatically.
Following the same logic, the boys created a series of mugs by combining linden wood, warm and elegant, with ceramic, cool and functional
The concept
“We took inspiration from this series of objects that best represent everydayness, sensoriality, functionality and simplicity, hallmarks of Simon Legald’s work.
In these furnishings, the material plays an important role, differentiating by sight and touch the areas of the object that will come into direct contact with the user and increasing the quality perceived by all the senses.”
Focusing on these aspects, we wanted to create an object that would enhance a moment of pause in the day, bonding with the user in a moment of serenity.
The linden wood, soft to the touch and light in color, conveys a warmth elegantly contrasted by the cup’s ceramic handle.
The change of material defines the user’s relationship with KopDrab, with an essentiality typical of Nordic design.
Each piece is one-of-a-kind, handcrafted through an artisanal process, and this helps to convey that feeling of harmony and contact that we want to bring into people’s everyday lives.

Creative process
1 – Breaking
We started from the breaking of an anonymous ceramic cup from which we were able to make the handle part. The breakage is left to chance,
leading each piece to be unique.
2 – Making wooden container
The container was later redesigned to accommodate the new handle.
3 – Assembly
The last stage is assembly, which carries with it a strong message of new life: something new and unique has been born out of a breakup.
