List of topics covered:
The second-year course focuses on the application of English in professional design contexts, with a focus on the analysis, synthesis and presentation of visual, verbal and textual information. Students will work on two main projects. The first, Song Object Project, will allow them to transform a chosen song into a physical object through critical analysis of connotative texts and images. The second, Design Agency Project, will see students play the role of a designer in an agency, analyzing products or services from design firms such as Fuseproject and Layer to align them with the company’s values and mission.
Course-specific learning objectives:
The course aims to improve the use of English in a professional context, making students more confident in oral and written communication. Through content analysis and presentation of design ideas, students will develop the ability to balance visual and verbal language. The ultimate goal is to provide the tools to understand and interact with the international design world, stimulating continued exposure to language outside of academia.
Mode of teaching delivery:
The course alternates between lectures and practical exercises, with the use of multimedia materials and digital tools. Students will participate in group work, text and video analysis, and develop structured presentations. Each project will conclude with an oral presentation, accompanied by a question-and-answer forum to stimulate critical discussion.
Mode of examination/evaluation:
Students will be evaluated on the basis of the two projects, both of which will be presented in digital and verbal format. The quality of communication, organization of content and professionalism of presentation will be the main evaluation criteria. The assessment will take into account the starting language level of each student, ensuring a fair approach to the skills acquired.
