List of topics covered:

This course introduces students to the use of English in a design-related professional context, providing tools to communicate effectively in an international setting. Through the analysis of written, audiovisual and digital content, students will explore the technical vocabulary of product design and visual communication, developing language skills applicable to professional practice. The first part of the course focuses on product design, analyzing the value placed on objects and the design philosophies of international designers. The second part is devoted to graphic design and communication, with the use of online resources and multimedia materials.

Course-specific learning objectives:

The course aims to enhance English proficiency in design contexts by improving the ability to interact with specialized content and communicate design ideas in a clear and structured manner. Students will gain confidence in using English to describe products, present designs, and participate in critical discussions. The goal is to develop awareness of the level of English required in the design world and to provide strategies for continued learning outside the academic environment.

Mode of teaching delivery:

Teaching is based on a combination of lectures, interactive activities and hands-on projects. After an introductory phase, students will work individually and in groups on reading exercises, video and digital content analysis, short writing and discussions. They will also be guided in researching and organizing their final presentations, receiving personalized language support. The use of digital tools will be central to the learning process.

Mode of examination/evaluation:

Students will be able to choose between two final projects, both of which will be evaluated through a digital and verbal presentation. The first project will consist of an analysis of a product that reflects the values studied in the first part of the course. The second project will be a comparative analysis of graphic design work on the D&AD website, using the technical terminology learned. Assessment will consider the quality of English used, organization and professionalism of the presentation, taking into account the starting level of each student.
