Course:
ISDR/01 Analysis and Representation of Form and Design II
Year:
2024/2025
Lecturer:
Giulio Simeone
List of topics covered:
This course delves into graphic representation techniques, focusing on the ability to effectively interpret and communicate a product design. Through focused exercises, students will develop advanced skills in drawing, surface management and representation of material qualities. The course will be divided into two modules: the first dedicated to the refinement of construction and surface rendering techniques through freehand drawing and digital coloring, and the second to the visual communication of the design through explanatory and illustrative boards.
Course-specific learning objectives:
The objective of the course is to consolidate the ability to represent forms and materials, refining graphic technique and the use of visual product codes. Students will learn to manage the visual composition of boards, represent complex surfaces and effectively communicate the aesthetic and functional qualities of a project by integrating traditional and digital tools.
Mode of teaching delivery:
Teaching is based on a combination of theoretical lectures and practical exercises. Each lecture includes collective review of the assigned exercises, introduction of new theoretical concepts, guided classroom exercises and collective correction of the work done. Students will use traditional and digital drawing tools, such as graphic tablets and coloring software.
Mode of examination/evaluation:
Final evaluation will be determined by the average of two predetermined assignments and a four-hour final practical test. The technical quality of the papers, the ability to apply the techniques learned and the communicative effectiveness of the representations will be the main evaluation criteria.
