Document summary objectives Course
Course:
ISDC/03 Graphic Image Design.
Year:
2024/2025
Lecturer:
Luca Fattore
List of topics covered:
This course explores the role of graphic design in the analysis and construction of visual identity, questioning the economic, political, socio-cultural and environmental implications of design. Through theoretical lectures and practical exercises, students will explore topics such as branding, visual strategies, typography and intersemiotic language. Particular attention will be paid to the study of heuristics and cognitive biases, useful for understanding and decoding collective behaviors in visual communication.
Course-specific learning objectives:
The course aims to develop in students the ability to observe, critically analyze and relate the different elements of visual communication. The acquisition of an effective design method will enable them to identify and describe visual concepts, develop a coherent authorial technique and construct effective visual narratives. The goal is to train professionals capable of strategically and consciously managing the visual identity system.
Mode of teaching delivery:
Teaching is divided into lectures and practical activities. The course includes an initial warm-up project and an ongoing project divided into three main phases: analysis, strategy and development. During the exercises, students will be encouraged to experiment and refine their skills in graphic design.
Mode of examination/evaluation:
The final exam will take place on the last day of class and will consist of grade reporting and discussion. The overall grade will be determined by the average of a written multiple-choice test and three midterm assessments related to the project phases (analysis, strategy and development). Students who fail the exam may reapply in the summer or fall sessions, but not in the winter session.
