This course explores graphic design through a critical and analytical approach, with the goal of developing the ability to design visual identity systems and editorial products. Students will address each stage of the creative process, from initial analysis to final design, understanding the fundamental components of visual communication, such as typography, color, imagery and visual hierarchy. Analysis of case studies and practical application of the concepts covered will provide a comprehensive and structured view of contemporary graphic design.

Course-specific learning objectives:

The course aims to provide students with the essential skills to tackle complex graphic projects, developing analytical and design skills. Students will acquire technical and theoretical knowledge about visual and typographic composition, learning how to build coherent and functional communication systems. Particular attention will be paid to visual storytelling and the relationship between form and content to ensure effective and strategic design.

Mode of teaching delivery:

Teaching involves a combination of theoretical lectures and practical applications. Students will work on group projects with periodic reviews, fostering critical discussion and professional growth. During the course, talks by industry experts on specific topics, such as concept development, copywriting and illustration, will be organized to further enrich the educational experience.

Mode of examination/evaluation:

Assessment will be based on the final presentation of the project developed during the course. Students will be evaluated on the quality of the paper, active participation in class, and punctuality in revisions. The examination will consist of discussion of the work done and the ability to argue the design choices, without additional written or oral evidence.
