Lorenzo Mason
List of topics covered:
The course covers the basics of graphic design, exploring the concepts of design, design methodology, and choice of media and materials. Special attention will be given to the relationship between semantics and visual perception, knowledge of production technologies, and the role of research in the creative process. Students will be guided in defining a personal design approach, with a focus on the interaction between theory and practice. During the course, theoretical lectures will be supplemented by practical exercises, allowing students to directly apply the concepts learned through group work.
Course-specific learning objectives:
The course aims to develop a critical understanding of graphic design and provide students with practical tools to tackle complex projects. Teaching focuses on building an effective design method, experimenting with different media and mediums, both analog and digital, and the ability to narrate and present a project in a clear and structured manner. Students will gain skills in handling typography, scale relationships, and designing for different formats and visual contexts.
Mode of teaching delivery:
The course will alternate between theoretical lectures, practical exercises, classroom workshops and collective reviews. Students will be divided into working groups to develop collaborative projects and understand the importance of teamwork in the creative process. Each lecture will be accompanied by exercises to put the concepts covered into practice.
Mode of examination/evaluation:
The final exam will consist of the presentation of the results of the five exercises developed during the course. The final grade will be the result of the sum of the scores assigned to each project, evaluating the design coherence, originality of the proposed solutions and the quality of the presentation.
