In November 2025, the San Gaetano Auditorium in Padua hosted an event that officially marked the start of the new Academic Year of Scuola Italiana Design. It was a special occasion to welcome new students and reflect on the value of design as a tool for change.
Special guest Giovanna Castiglioni, vice president of the Fondazione Achille Castiglioni, shared with the audience a journey through the design legacy of her father, Achille Castiglioni, and his approach to design. It was an inspiring talk that highlighted the importance of building the future with solid roots, through a design method that combines intuition, function and experimentation.
The event was attended by the institutional offices of SID and Galileo Visionary District, with speeches dedicated to the role of design in contemporary society and the training of new talents.
To the designers of the future, this day conveyed a clear message: design is not only creativity, but also responsibility, critical thinking, and the ability to transform ideas into concrete solutions. Because designing means observing, questioning, experimenting, making mistakes and trying again.
With this in mind, we wish all students a year full of stimulation and opportunity. Your journey has just begun, and as Castiglioni teaches us, in design-as in life-it is essential to know how to play, with seriousness and passion.
